In this course we will look at some current literary theory and explore its implications for the teaching of literature. Sessions will be divided into several strands. 1) Lectures and demonstrations dealing with the principles that might govern instruction in literature; 2) Teaching presentations by students; and 3) Small group discussions of current literature written especially for adolescent readers and suitable for inclusion in literature curricula for middle and secondary schools.
