SEMITIC 209A Northwest Semitic Epigraphy 4 Units

This two course sequence will study the epigraphic remains of the Northwest Semitic languages. First semester will study inscriptions in Hebrew. Second semester topics will vary from year to year. Possible topics include: Canaanite dialects; El-Amarna Akkadian; Eblaite. The inscriptions will be studied both from the perspective of the comparative history of the Northwest Semitic languages and also for
their relevance in illuminating contemporaneous history and culture.
